Historical significance

What do you think makes something historically significant? Or, to ask another way; What makes something worth recording in history? Does it depend on the subject, the length of time covered, or who's telling it? Tell me what you think.

  2. I think if it's record breaking or if it made a change in people's lives. It may depend on the subject, the length of time or who's telling it. But I honestly believe it's because it changes people's lives.

  6. A event that is important enough to be recorded is one tht does not happen enough to be normal, atleats in the areaa where it is happening. Or one that will cause something to happen that is not normal for the area.

  9. I think what is history worthy depends on the person recording history. For example I might find the fact that I have a SqueezePop worthy of recording but chances are most people won't record it into a book.

  10. I think that what makes something worth recording in history is if the event changes peoples lives. The lenght of time does not matter because sometimes it only takes a second to change the world (like the atom bomb). Who tells the stroy might change your view on the story but it does not change whether or not it is recorded.

  11. To make something historically significant I believe that it has to be a part of something huge like a war or change the course of the world like the invention of the telephone.

  15. I think what makes something historically significate, like it has to have a reason behind it and like it has to change the future in some way.

  23. It all depends on who is telling it/ who the winner is. For instance, in the Civil war the North named battles after close cities, but the South named them after close waterways, now though they are most often refered to by the cities, the only one i can think of with a waterway name is Bull Run, but that's it.

  26. i think that the significance really depends on how many people that the event affects. for instance, if you get into a car accident, it is going to affect less people than the holocaust...

  33. How many people it affects, could affect, and or will affect.

  34. If it affects people. If it doesn't make a difference in people's lives I don't think it is worth recording.

  35. What usually gets recorded in history is what the winners record or what the country you live in supports. Think about the revolutionary war. When the last time you heard that account from the british side? I think that things that are life changing for many people should be recorded or what catches the public eye.
