Our question for the year asks whether or not the 20th century was one of progress. Today's Daily Prep asks that specifically for communication. What do you think? Are we better off for having things like Twitter, Facebook, and text messaging; or are those things making us dumber?
I think we are better off having those social networks and text messaging because they can help us find people that we've known long before and allow us to reconnect with them. Text messaging is a good thing because it's a quicker way to talk to people instead of calling them or so. I don't think they are making us dumb at all. I think they are making us more computer smart in a way. -Quintina J.
ReplyDeleteI thnk some information is making us smarter, but things like twitter are making less intelligent. Twitter forces us tto make our ideas simpler, and I think that it is the worst social media format there is.

This comment is saying that we are getting dumber from Facebook and twitter. I disagree with that i don't think it enhances or decreases our intelligence. Shana H.
ReplyDeleteJeffery R.- I think that things like twitter and face dont make us dumber. Also i dont think that texting makes us dumber or smater, because when you text tweet or update a status on facebook you dont gain or lose knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is making some of us dumber, because some people that is all they do, but for other people they are smart enough to know their limitations. - jessica :)
ReplyDeleteIn a sence, it is, for some people may have a harder time communicate face to face while it allso alows up to talk about things in a differnt place in the world just after it happens instead of a few hours or days after it happen allowing us to know more about what is happening Jeremy J. McCabe :-)
ReplyDeleteDalton W- i feel that this shows that we have gotten dumber as time has progressed but i feel that we have grown to communicate more with eachother and it is alot faster now as well!
ReplyDeleteI don't think things like facebook, twitter, and text messaging are making us dumber like this cartoon is trying to say. I don't really think they make us more intelligent either I view them as a means to communicate easier and not really anything else.
ReplyDeleteXavier A.
I think that communication has created progress for our century. Twitter, Facebook, and text mesaging allow us to share massive amounts of information quickly with many people. Now no matter who you are you have acess to information.

I don't think things like facebook and twitter make us dumber, except where grammar is concerned, because, while you don't gain or lose knowledge, the character limits make people get used to poor grammar. ~Jennifer B.
ReplyDeleteI think that anywhere technology has improved, there are some who have sucumb to ignorance when using it, while others who create this technology are evolving to become much more brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI think that this is indeed progress. It is impossdle to make us dummer. However all of this net working is making us lazer that we were.

ReplyDeleteI think that we are better off with things like Facebook and Twitter, as long as we're not becoming obsessive over updating our pages and things like that.
ReplyDeleteSam B.
I think we are better off with Facebook, and Twitter and text, becuase we might not be able to talk to some people unless we had those things.
ReplyDeleteit is basically leading us into newspeak it is unervingly similar and we are quickwise headed for it.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Orwell was the man.

I think that those whoare very used to twitter get dumb, while the rest of us are smarter than that.
ReplyDeleteI think that the 20 century has progressed alot, we have advanced alot in 5 years than we ever had in 10. For Ex. The first computer was basically a calculator, and it was huge and SLOW. Now we are bulding computers right and left that can process billions of tasks each second and it also has a calculator. Twitter has been an excellent way for people to express what they have to save to the world, and everyone can see.
ReplyDeleteI think Twitter and Facebook also text messaging is not making us dumber. Unless grammer and things like that are concern in it. Tiara W.
ReplyDeleteI think this communication is bittersweet , it allows you to quickly and easily communicate with people , but also it lacks face to face convo . Its good for acroos town communicatio but sometime its unecessary when you can just talk in persom
ReplyDeleteI don't think it make you dumber, but if its all u do than yes!
ReplyDeleteI posted the one above, forgot to put my name.

I think we are better off not having facebook, because it is making us like not so much ''dumber'' butt like it isnt making us smarter, were better off with books!
ReplyDeleteI don't think that technology like Facebook and Twitter are making us dumber, but it is not making us smarter either... It is simply a faster means of technology.
ReplyDeleteI think that certain advances in communication are a good thing. but others like twitter i think start to limit the communication and make us less socially capable...
ReplyDeletei think we are not better off talking face-2-face, then we are using social networks or texting
ReplyDeleteThese things aren't making people dumber. Its just mostly telling people whats on other peoples mind. This doesn't really affect peoples brains. It causes you to use more of your brain bcause you are actually reading things and replying to them.
ReplyDeleteI think that the social networking sites are really stupid and pointless. If you can't talk to a person in real life, how can they be your friend?

ReplyDeleteI think it's better that way because there's more ways to communitcate. They're not making us dumber ...
ReplyDeleteI think that we are better off with things like twitter and facebook because with those things we can communicate with more people at one time. I also think we are better off because you can talk to people that you havent talked to in a long time.
ReplyDeletei think it is someimes makes u smarter and some dumber.
ReplyDeleteI think they do not make us dumber. They are forms of communication that several people use. If you use Twitter or if you text that does not make you dumb. So, using those forms of communications does not make you any dumber. You may already be dumb, it just depends on who you are.
ReplyDeleteI dont think it really maters bacause we still need to talk to each other.
ReplyDeletei feel that things like twitter dont help us that much because everyone makes a big deal out of what people "tweet" which is kind of stupid, for example chad ochocinco got fined for one of his tweet, that just makes us go crazy over looking at what people say...
ReplyDelete50% MAKING US SMATER...
ReplyDeletei think that having thee social networks are really nice its easier for us to get in touch wit new and old friends
ReplyDelete--Marielle..!! <3
hey so uhm like i liike totally think that like like the internet and stuff is like kinda in the midle so like yeah!!!1 omg yayy!! :)
ReplyDeleteDavid V aka oj the juiceman said this picture is demenstrating how we as people get wrapped up in technology and were forgettig to do basic things in life or not really spending times doing other things
ReplyDeleteT.O. vs. occhocinco!!! :p talk about media people!!
ReplyDeleteI think that things like facebook, twitter, and texting aren't necessarily making us dumber, but its messing with our social skills.
ReplyDeleteI think it's making us smarter because,we are learning new knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI do think that the 20th century was a century of progress. I think that Twitter and Facebook are making us dumber. I think this because on Twitter and Facebook most people use texing shorthand. I think that since people use texting short hand their vocabulary has decreased. Think about it. When was the last time you said "LOL?" How about "That is halarious?" Really think about it...
ReplyDeleteGood point Ceilidh. I wonder though if we're creating new language to meet new demand (a limited amount of text space) or simply replacing a more complex language with one that is less complex? Is one option better than the other?
ReplyDeleteTwitter and facebook can be good for informing people about current events. However, If they are used too much then people lose connections with the real world.
ReplyDeleteThose things don't make us dumber they cause us to socialize more.
ReplyDeleteI think it is the concerpt of following the laws.
